This is packaging weekly with Adam Peek Cory Connors and Evelio Mattos good morning, everybody. Uh, you got and possibly add them to show up here this morning. Thanks for joining us. And they're running all these here on my own this morning. So we've got a couple things going on this morning. We've got one is, um, I finished all my judging for Penn awards first round. Um, as you can see, there's a few people that have made the shortlist for Penn awards. Uh, it looks like is hopping on here. And, um, that was pretty interesting. I mean, getting the judge, uh, I think it was about 350. What's that, but I get into judge about 350 entries and each one had its own set of. Parameters. So super, super interesting to quite awhile. Uh, lots of great back on the world. Uh, bakery is going by. Good. Good. Can you hear me now? Yeah, I can hear you that. Perfect. All right. Excellent. Talking about the pen awards. Yeah, just talking about kind of words again. That. I mean, there's thousands of entrance. Uh, we've got a ton of judges and each judge gets about 350 different entries to review. We each have our own set of parameters and it gets you through the first phase, right? So you got shortlisted. And then from this point, that short list, then we get to judge it all again. Um, and then after that, uh, there's potential to judge in person, um, in London or just doing it, um, Yeah, we're still doing it online. Is that your plan to go to London? Um, yeah, I guess actually Monday, so Wednesday I had to, uh, head over to, uh, to Spain. I'll be there for the month, uh, like about five weeks. So next week we'll be, uh, we'll be from there. So yeah, pretty cool. Wow. From Egypt, here we go. Awesome. That's cool. So yeah, you guys are joining us, let us know where you're joining us from. I mean like how far we're reaching all the way to each of them. This is awesome. You may care about packaging around the planet here. We've got Brazil. Look at that. I mean, we're going all corners of the planet here and we've got John and Quinn. My buddy, Jonathan Quinn got a schedule are a recording, a podcast, uh, three years from now. Uh, Kate's amazing. She was, uh, she founded a company called dip, which is. Sustainable. So it's box it's bar shampoo, bar conditioner, amazing stop. Uh, and you know, they've got packaging, it's all paper-based and their e-com, system's pretty awesome. Cause it comes in and you gotta be this paper that you can throw in the, in the water and it melts and you know, they're using a lot of really cool stuff. The coolest thing. I think the most interesting thing is that Kate is awesome in the product she's developed, but then she's also married to a packaging designer. Right. So that's where you get that's where you get some pretty cool packaging, amazing family, doing great things. Thank you for introducing me to them. Yeah. A hundred percent. And then you're not. The cool thing about being married to a packaging designer is you don't have to pay for all the packaging design. Okay. Cool stuff. She did it for the discount. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. So definitely so definitely check them out. Uh, I believe their website is, I think it's. Dip already. That's right. Yup. Honestly, already dip it's dip already. Dot com. Definitely check that out. Super cool stuff. I really liked the, uh, thank you, Kate. I really liked the, um, innovation they did with their packaging, where they die cut a hole in the end so that people will smell through that hole rather than opening the box and unwrapping. Or shampoo or conditioner, this will hopefully eliminate those packages that get, opened and then never bought, uh, talk about a sustainable, , idea that I had never thought was necessary, but what a well done, Kate and Jonathan. Really cool. Yeah. Super cool stuff, man. Um, in terms of news, I just saw this come across my desk here. Uh, I'm going to go ahead and share my screen. Was this packaging, you know, plastic bags, you might need biodegradable after all. And we're to talk about, is this enzyme that does break down plastic that's available? You know, I think we've seen this quite a bit of different enzymes at candy plastic, but how much time does it take? Is it available in nature? You know, how are you, how are we breaking this stuff down? Uh, Jonathan, if you're familiar with, you know, with this, it'd be great. If you can kind of chime in here and let us know. Um, but there's, you know, it says there there's two enzymes that you plastic, but where is this available? You know, what happens to the existing plastic that's out there? Um, you know, how are we supposed to access this? Yeah, it seems like. Science fiction, you know, it just doesn't seem real to me. Yeah. You know, if it's, if it works and it's good for the environment, uh, that'd be great. Hey, Mikey, the Italian ham. How are you, sir? That's right. We got a chance to hang out with Mikey, uh, founder of scrap. And, uh, what's the, what's the, what's the app? Corey, is it just scrap? Yeah. A S C R a. And basically you, you, it, it allows you to scan, uh, a UPC code. Doesn't have to be a QR code or anything additional added to your packaging that allows you to scan it no matter where you are. And it will tell you if that item is recyclable or compostable or waste, essentially. And it's a free app and they're doing great things. Really cool concept. You can go to scrap recycling.com. It just lets you know, what is, what isn't, um, in your packaging and you can join and scan your stuff as well. And then they've got a secondary system that will then review what you've scanned, confirm that what you've scanned is correct. Um, so super, super cool. Definitely something that's making a difference. We've got 11,000 products are quite a few. And you've got almost a hundred million people that are doing better using this product. So definitely check it out. Really innovative young young people started this company on, on their own. That was started out as a college project. And now they're taken off like gangbusters really, really exciting. Good job, Mikey and team. Yeah, for sure. Really good stuff out there. Uh, I think that's what it's going to take to. You know, uh, all people of all different ages and backgrounds and all, you know, thought processes to, to really take a risk and start a new company or, or start a new concept or something like that. Yeah, for sure. I've been seeing this brand on LinkedIn quite a bit, and I can't recall what it's called. But they ha you know, there's always, you know, you always see a ton of brands and they're like, well, your branding must be bad if people can't remember what they're called, but I do remember the brand. Um, so they're doing a great job and it's a reusable, it's a brand that reuses their jars and they, you know, you can fill it with peanut butter. Um, you can fill, you know, whatever it is. And that's, what's filled at the, at the store marina, it's called scrap S C R a P. recycles.com. You can go there, but the app is scrap the best. C R a P P. Definitely. Cool. Yeah, it's an interesting concept to, um, send packaging back for a refill. Um, and you mentioned that, that, you know, you might get eight ounces, you might get 10 ounces. It's what's available that time. We're kind of jars. They have that day. Is that, is that kind of. Yeah, ideas are, and they keep, they keep adding new brands to this system. So it's not necessarily a brand of products. It's a system and they've got like three different jar sizes and whatever's getting filled that day. That's what will get filled, gets it gets filled to get down here, but I can't quite find it here this morning, but definitely, you know, interesting. Right. Cause if I'm, if I'm paying. And we get peanut butter and it stopped quality product, whether it's 10 ounces or eight ounces, I don't think it really makes a big difference. The fact that I can return this makes a huge, huge difference. Yeah. I feel like reusable is, is the future of actual sustainable packaging. I really do. At least it's a huge part. It makes sense. Yeah. I think just getting a more localized filling is probably going to be the biggest key to helping where we're not having to ship things across country to fill general waste stores, things like that. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. For sure. Have you seen the guy on Tik TOK that is wearing a suit made out of the garbage that he creates? It's pretty awesome. He's an activist, a, uh, sustainable, uh, environmentalist, really? And he's so he took these big plastic bags and he strapped to him self on his chest and his back and his arms and his legs, all of the waste that he has created in the last couple of weeks to show. Hello, this is, this is how much you are creating when you buy food, when you buy products, when you buy things. Uh, absolutely fantastic. Really interesting. Yeah. It's, it's insane. There's a ton. I mean, we create, we create so much yeah. Hundreds of pounds. For sure. All right, man. So I think today's Memorial day. I think we're gonna wrap up early. I'm gonna head out to veterans Memorial cemetery. We've got a, I mean, Katie's been a great, great show. We got Egypt. We've got Brazil, we got Boston mass and uh, we have Mexico. Yeah. Right. We're hitting all, all corners here. Definitely. Yeah, definitely check out panel awards. They've got some cool stuff going on there. They got some great posts daily. Um, she got, uh, Corey's podcast this week. I'm releasing my episode with Matt Handley. Who's a amazing 3d packaging artist who just started to work with enlisted in San Francisco in Utah, was going to do amazing work. Uh, definitely check him out and definitely connect with Matt Handley. If you get a chance here on. Yeah, my guest this week is, uh, Caleb Nelson from sifted. They're a logistics company that helps brands and companies be more sustainable with their logistics. And that to me is such a huge component of sustainability that we don't often talk about, but it's, it can make such a big difference on the true sustainable packaging. So check them out. It's general packaging with Cory Connor's. Awesome. All right, guys. We'll see you. We'll catch you next next week from Spain. Thank you.
